Your Personal Myth

The Hero's Journey
Did you know that almost all world cultures share a common myth about the hero's journey? This existential trip leads us from a place of confusion and crisis to a symbolic death of the self. Next we go on a journey to the underworld, where we experience the shadow sides of our self. Once we have integrated that which we formerly feared, we are reborn into our Divine nature and we return to teach and heal the world.

The core elements of this process are amazingly consistent in all world cultures and religions. Why do you think that is?

I believe it is because our ancestors realized that, even though the details of each person's trip are unique, we all must go on that same journey. The trip is what it means to be human. Well, if you're going on a dangerous and sometimes quite scary trip into the unknown, it helps to have a map of the territory. Navigators have always used the stars to avoid trouble and steer for new lands.

Reconnect With Joy
Do you remember what your heart really wanted when you were a child? We seem to come into life with a good idea of where we've been and where we need to go - our personal myth. But for most of us, the adults shame or ridicule or beat it out of us and we give up on doing what our heart demands of us to do.

I dreamed of growing up to be a detective and an explorer. I was also fascinated by telescopes and magic.

The adults told me that being a detective in real life wasn't at all like it was portrayed in my detective books. They also said that pretty much everything on Earth had already been explored; so, scratch that one off the list, too. For a long time I accepted their version of reality. I spent many years doing things I didn't want to do and making myself unhappy and unhealthy.

But our dreams come from God, and they don't die easily. Studying my own personal astrology has helped me to realize that I did in fact grow up to be a detective, digging up clues to help myself and others explore the most important mystery of all, the mystery of "Why am I here?"

I also grew up to be an explorer, working on the frontiers of our evolving consciousness. And I use elements of magic and the stars to guide my explorations.
