Some Books I Have Found Helpful

The Aquarian Conspiracy. Marian Ferguson. Recent scientific discoveries suggest that major evolutionary changes can happen suddenly, rather than slowly over millions of years. Written before the advent of the Internet, this fascinating book argues that a quantum leap in human evolution is not only possible but likely - and it will happen as the natural result of loosely organized networks sharing information....
The Artist's Way. Julia Cameron. It would be hard for me to overstate how powerful the influence of this book is in my life. Warning: if you do the 12-week course, it will change your life.
Be Here Now. Ram Dass. If you're going on a trip, you should probably look at a map...I discovered this book years ago during my first fast, an accidental-at-first three-day affair caused by the flu. I smoked Marlboros all the way through, if I remember correctly, but I read this book and knew that sooner or later everything was going to be all right...
Creative Visualization. Shakti Gawain. Small, cheap, deep, powerful.
The Hero With A Thousand Faces. Joseph Campbell. If you're going on a long journey, it helps to have a map....Understand the nature of the universal mythic journey to understand why you are where you are now.
How to Know God, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success. This guy is a master and I recommend all of his books. How to Know God is great science for anyone recovering from a stint in a fear-based religious sect. Chopra is skilled at showing how leading-edge science and mysticism intersect in their approach to God.
Illusions. Richard Bach. This is a short, magical novel.
The Immoralist. Andre Gide. There's a character in this book who appears only briefly, a model of impeccability in counterpoint to the protagonist. Some day I too shall be that free.
Journey to Ixtlan. Carlos Castaneda. There is another way of experiencing the world than the one you were taught. It is called the warrior's path. All of Castaneda's books are portals; this is a good place to step into the awesome mystery of life lived fully.
Letters to a Young Poet. Rainer Maria Rilke. Another very small and magical book. Wonderful encouragement for times of personal crisis (growth opportunities).
Power Vs. Force. David Hawkins. There is a Universal database containing all knowledge relative to this plane of existence, and we can tap into that database....this is a very powerful book by an eminent scientist and doctor.
A Return to Love. Marianne Williamson. I love Marianne! She is a harbinger of the new world. This book helps you see how your relationships are the key to unlocking the promise of your life.
Siddhartha. Herman Hesse. Yet another very small and very magical book.
Silva Mind Control Method. Jose Silva, Hans de Jong, others. There are lots of Silva books and tapes around. The Silva method is a powerful way to start understanding how the mind works and how you can use it to create a better life.
Steppenwolf. Herman Hesse. For madmen only!
The Way of the Peaceful Warrior. Dan Millman. "Life is not suffering; it's just that you will suffer it, rather than enjoy it, until you let go of your mind's attachments and just go for the ride freely, no matter what happens."
The Will to Meaning or Man's Search for Meaning. Viktor Frankl. Roughly the same material, but the first is more technical/theoretical. Frankl is a holocaust survivor who developed his philosophy in the Auschwitz camp.
Write It Down, Make It Happen. Henriette Klauser. Strategies for discovering and attracting your true desires, getting rid of that which you no longer desire.
Zen Guitar. Philip Toshio Sudo. One of my two oracles in the making of songs for depressed people. A deep and beautiful book for all guitar players.
Zen Mind Beginner's Mind. Shunryu Suzuki. This was recommended to me by Haji tha Mystic at the Jazz Fest 2000 when I expressed my desire to begin delving more deeply into Buddhism. My first practicing Zen manual, and one of my two oracles in making songs for depressed people. I love you, Suzuki.
