Bio

D.K. Brainard is a writer, consciousness raiser, singer-songwriter, beauty-lover and intuitive with a gift for compassionate astrology. He has earned advanced degrees from the University of Paris and the University of Cincinnati.

In the last two years, D.K. Brainard has organized weekly consciousness growth groups, hosted open mics and created a weekly artist series for musicians exploring music as a medium for opening up creativity. In early 2004, he toured from Seattle to Los Angeles as a singer-songwriter and consciousness raiser.

D.K. has also worked as a newspaper boy, construction worker, pipeline worker, house painter, secretary, cook, counter person, teacher, editor, bicycle messenger and reporter. He grew up in Flint, Michigan and has lived in Atlanta, Cincinnati, Detroit, Paris, New York, Sioux Falls and Washington, D.C. He now resides in New Orleans, where he is completing his first novel.

Vision
Sixty-five percent of American adults are overweight and 30 percent are obese. Forty-four percent of Americans use at least one prescription drug daily. The average number of prescriptions per U.S. resident in 2001 was 11. Americans consumed 153 million legal narcotics prescriptions in 2002. Health care is our fastest growing industry and the cost of insurance is extortionate for middle class families. We as a country have been conditioned to be sick and tired...maybe so we'll be too exhausted to notice or care what is being done to the planet and the other creatures on it, in our name?

There are better ways of living. We believe it is not only possible, but in harmony with universal laws, for us to live powerful, joyful, healthy lives. This includes doing what we want to do each day, not living lives of such desperation that we are compelled to dull the pain by any means possible. In order to get to this place of power, we need to heal: ourselves, our societies, and our relationship with Mother Earth. Music is one of the most powerful tools we have for healing. By coming together in music with the conscious intent to be healed, we can choose to speed up this process exponentially.

When enough of us are whole we will naturally and easily create a better world and have more fun living in it.

Mission
I intend to serve as a creative channel, using the power of sound, of the word, and of music to help us connect to the Creative Source within us in order to manifest more fulfilling, harmonious, joyful lives. I intend to accomplish this by:

• using sound to communicate this intent, through songs, readings, books, classes, recordings, performances, private readings and further means to be revealed when the time is ripe
• providing information on techniques, tools, foods, books and other resources that can help improve our connection to the Source energy
• connecting like-minded people and networks to encourage and sustain us in our evolutionary process
